My Students
The students from my school live in one of the poorest Congressional Districts in the country. Many of our students are English language learners who live day-to-day and view coming to this public school as a way to escape their home lives. We try our best to provide students with access to after school programs and technology, but with major budget cuts, we can no longer afford to fund student-centered projects. It has become increasingly difficult to offer services to our English Language Learners as well as our large population of students with Special Needs.
My Project
We need so much for our classroom! We are starting the fourth month of the school year and already we have run out of looseleaf paper, notebooks, cleaning supplies, markers, etc. We are asking for these basic supplies for our classroom and also for a storage cabinet that locks and a cable lock for a cabinet that does not lock. It always seems like our supplies walk away on their own so we need to ensure that we can keep our supplies safe!
My students come from a disadvantage that they often do not have basic schools supplies like notebooks and looseleaf paper. We are also asking for a larger garbage can for the classroom so that we can securely throw our trash away. With 140 students, are tiny garbage can gets full very quickly!
