Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have been teaching for over 23 years. You can imagine the wear and tear on essential supplies like markers and pens.
Currently, I am a 2nd grade Dual Language teacher.
Sometimes it feels like I have two jobs as I try to secure resources and problem solve in two languages. I am seeking a variety of quality classroom resources that I can use with my 2nd graders to finish the year strong.
First, I have students who struggle with academics in both English and Spanish, but they excel when given the chance to showcase their talent in other ways. As a result, I would like some updated, quality art supplies. We are currently studying the butterfly life cycle in science, and I thought, in addition to them expressing their learning in writing, they could also express themselves through art. I also found that students are more motivated to push themselves with their writing if they have colorful writing options, so I am requesting a variety of pen styles.
During our last field trip, students were required to document their findings, but they didn't have proper clipboards. We made do with white boards, but that ended up being too messy. These clipboards could also assist us when we have an opportunity to do outdoor learning around campus.
After teaching for as long as I have, I know the value of play. When I was a child in school, my friends and I would jump rope side by side and together in a group. Learning how to jump rope is vital for kids' fine motor skills, and it's also a simple way to get their heart rate up!
