My students need basic classroom supplies, such as folders, pencils, and labels to make their belongings neat and organized.

My Students
I have the privilege to work with wonderful, curious, creative, and caring 3rd graders in Chinatown in New York City. I teach in an inclusion class (both general education students and students with special needs). It is so wonderful so see all of the students guiding each other's learning throughout each school day, be it in a core academic subject, an art project, or on a field trip.
I teach at a Title I school which is located near several housing projects.
Many of the students receive free lunch. Most of the students speak Chinese and English, and my elementary school is predominantly made up of Chinese, African-American, and Hispanic children. My school puts an emphasis on integrating art into academic curricula, and our students love opportunities to demonstrate what they have learned through art. This past year, my class has been utilizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills through a brand-new computer science program.
My students are always excited to learn new things, use new materials, and have new experiences!
My Project
Pencils and folders and labels, oh my! There are so many materials that I use with my students at the beginning of a new school year: fresh new Ticonderoga pencils, folders and other belongings with nice labels, and Ziploc bags to hold the books they use, to name a few. I want my students to feel comfortable in their back-to-school transition by having the supplies they need, especially when many of them cannot afford their own supplies.
Seeing students' eyes light up when they get their hands on their brand new school supplies in the first week of school is one of the best parts of a new school year.
Ziploc bags will allow my students to keep their brand new books organized when they borrow them from the classroom library. Laminating pouches can help my students keep their supplies and important papers for the entire school year! My students can use the magnetic dots to display their first pieces of third grade word for their new classmates. These supplies will help my students feel comfortable and happy as they embark upon their third grade experience.
More than half of students from low‑income households
