Ms. Stork from Baltimore MD is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need "real" pencil sharpeners and pencils.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Imagine you are teaching a class when suddenly several students take out their broken pencils that need sharpened. Only to be confronted with 3 broken sharpeners.
I teach at a school where the achievement gap is very visible for inner-city school children.
When my students entered my room on the first day of school, the majority of them read at least one full year below grade level. Although this is the harsh reality, this does not diminish the fact that I teach the most motivated and hardworking students I have ever met. This year we have set the goal of improving our reading scores by two full years growth in just 9 months' time.
While some people might think of that as impossible, my students know that it is within our reach. After all, did you know that Michael Jordan got cut from his high school basketball team? He used that as his motivation to work hard and get where he is today. My students know that anything is possible if you work hard enough. In order to close the achievement gap for these students it is important that our class functions smoothly so that we do not have any wasted time.
In order for that to happen we desperately need new pencil sharpeners and spare pencils.
Your donation would not only help to keep me sane, but would also ensure that (70) 3rd-5th graders have the materials they need in order to be successful. Without your help it would be impossible for my students to have these basic resources. Children remember actions not words. Please ACT. The rewards of this donation are limitless.
You donate directly to the teacher or project you care about and see where every dollar you give goes.
