This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are amazing. They come to school prepared to learn and try their best to achieve our high expectations every day. My students will use these Dry Erase Lap Boards during a "Picture Addition" math lesson. As I read aloud an addition word problem such as "Sara collects seashells. She has 10 seashells in her collection already. Then, she goes to the beach and finds 4 more seashells. How many seashells are in her collection now?" My students will draw seashells on their Lap Board and add the number of shells to their drawings. This will allow me to see my students' thinking and quickly catch any errors.
Our school is located in a low-income area with most students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
Most of my First Grade students have limited resources outside of school, so school may provide their only chance to experience strategic and engaging academic activities. My goal, every year, is to create a learning environment that is warm, safe, and inviting while having high expectations for my First Grade students' success. Many of my students are English Language Learners and it is so important that they attend school everyday to receive the extra help they need. My students will start the year in school (yay!) and it is so important to keep my classroom safe and clean for them. I also want my classroom to be a warm and engaging place for my students to learn. These new supplies will help me do it all!
