Help us go back in time with heroes in history. Martin Luther King Jr., George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln are just a few of the great figures in history my students will meet while listening to biographies of people who have shaped our country.
Our school is a brand new school just starting our second year in operation.
We are a school that prides ourselves on literacy and we strive to make reading an exciting and rewarding experience. Last school year we had a reading contest to make a school wide goal. The students went above and beyond and blew their goal out of the water, resulting in a visit from the Utah Jazz Bear. We have literacy nights to help promote reading at home and at school. My students love to read and learn about the world around them.
My Project
During my literacy block everyday my students participate in the Daily Five. The Daily Five is a series of centers the students work in while the teacher works with a small group of students. One of the centers is titled "Listen to Reading." Students listen to books being read, while they follow along. Listening to reading promotes word recognition, fluency, and reading comprehension. The children love to listen to stories they may not be able to read on their own. The read along books I am requesting will not only foster reading skills in my classroom, but will help the students learn about historical figures. They will get to know heroes who lived in the past.
My project will help my students become better readers and learn about history at the same time.
I know my students will be excited to learn about the great people in the books. The read along books will help my students build a foundation for their knowledge of our nation's history and the great people who helped make freedom possible.
