The students at my Title I school are eager kids who want to show the world their music abilities. They come to music class ready to dance, sing and learn whatever musical element I want them to know. The students at my school have not had the opportunity to listen to music from different genres and different areas of the world.
My students love music and love to share with me their favorite experiences in music.
I want to be able for students to explore music on their own and listen to music from not only their culture but from other cultures also. The project will allow my students to have a quiet listening corner in the classroom to sit and listen to music.
I teach at a Title I school where all of the children receive free breakfast and free lunch. There are many students at my school who receive backpacks of food to take home over the weekend and we also have a food pantry at our school to benefit our families once a month.
Even with all the challenges that the students experience, the students come to music class eager to learn!
My Project
We are about to start exploring the music of the world in my classroom. The students will be able to pick different countries and we will look at the musical elements of those countries. The students will be divided into groups to complete their project. They will work in different centers to work on this project. The centers will be researching, exploring instruments, and then listening.
We need a listening center in our classroom for the students to be able to explore not only their countries music that they choose but also to explore other music for other projects in our classroom.
I requested a soft couch with a CD player and headphones for the students to have a place to listen to CDs. They can go to the listening area, pick a CD, get comfortable and listen. I want them to have a soft place so they can close their eyes and let the music take them to far off places.
I want the students in my music classroom to gain an appreciation for all music. The items that I am requesting will allow the students to listen to music from around the world and help increase their awareness of different cultures.
