This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My inclusion students want to attend school daily! I'm a teacher at an alternative school. My kids have so many issues that aren't educationally related, but they have a direct impact on their education. The problems that my students encounter include: poverty in the home, abuse which includes physical, emotional, and neglect. Basic items such as a coat, hat, scarf, and gloves that you and I take for granted they don’t have.
Because of the frigid conditions in our area, my students elect not to attend school due to lack of warm clothing.
Imagine driving in your car on a wintry, rainy day and you pass several students walking with no hat, gloves or scarf. It makes you want to cry or better yet give them yours because we can't offer them a ride home. My students are loving, respectable and respond to high energy lessons that I provide daily. Many of my students are on track for a technical or collegiate path. Help me keep the momentum going by providing my students with this small need so that they will attend school especially during the wintertime.
My Project
This project will benefit the students that ride the MATA bus and those who walk home. Because our school serves the entire district, many of the students do not live in the neighborhood in which the school is located, thereby causing them to depend on public transportation to get to school and go home. Students have to catch the bus several blocks from our school
By providing winter hats and gloves for the bus riders and walkers, you will make their commute home more tolerable.
Weather conditions vary, but with support from you, we can assure the students that they will stay warm.
