Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My K-2nd grade students have autism. These are precious years of early intervention where we can support our students’ needs so they have the opportunity to grow important skills such as secure attachment, joint-attention, and empathy for others in order to enhance future years of learning success.

My students are from the community impacted by the Flint Water Crisis.

Some of them have been affected from lead in the water, or are from communities of poverty and of low access to resources. Children at my school are in high-need of every advantage that can be offered to ensure them of a future of the highest independence attainable for them individually. With meaningfully targeted lessons using evidence-based practices, my students will be exposed to strengthening their communication, social skills, daily living skills, and behavior.

Each of my students has their own interests and preferences that we use as reinforcement in learning activities. Stocking the classroom with their interests will enhance each learning opportunity for every child. What works for one student does not work for another. My students require individualized targeted skill lessons. Please consider donating to my students.

My Project

Through weekly baby doll lesson time, the natural curiosity of students will be drawn in to a circle time where the teacher will sing about the baby doll and demonstrate actions to allow students to imitate how to treat the baby.

The Feels Real Baby Dolls and accessories will be used to teach young students with autism the important skills of joint-attention, empathy, and communication.

Through planned and targeted teacher-led play with song and motions (holding baby, pointing out body parts, imitating teacher actions, etc), students will practice listening skills and play skills (social skills).

Weekly lessons will also give students the opportunity to strengthen secure attachment as they play with their doll and practice empathy with teacher guidance.
