Baby Dolls for Caring Kids

Help me give my students individual dolls to teach empathy to young preschoolers through Baby Doll Circle Time. We will sing to the babies, snuggle the babies, and give young children opportunities to practice social emotional skills.

My Students

My students come to school (or currently, "zoom school") each day, curious and eager to learn. They range in age from three to five years old and have a wide variety of developmental needs. It is amazing to see these children every day, full of wonder about the smallest of things! It's incredible to see them start preschool at 3 and watch them grow until they move to kindergarten at 5. Our children attend an early childhood center for children with and without special needs. Thirty percent of our students speak English as a second language and almost half are considered low income. No matter their needs when they enter our school, we strive to prepare every child for a successful entrance into kindergarten.

My Project

By using baby dolls, each child will be able to practice social emotional skills that will help children to develop empathy. Dolls can also be used to help children adjust to in-person learning as we transition back to school during the COVID crisis.

Each child will have a doll to care for, snuggle, sing to, rock, and love.

For children who struggle to return to school after a year at home, they will have their doll to take care of each day. They will be able to develop a bond with their doll that provides for healthy attachments. Through doll care, we will strengthen the social emotional skills of our youngest learners, many of whom are trauma impacted.
