Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are all very avid readers. They love learning and reading fun and interesting books. The students read at home as well as during independent reading time in the classroom.

My students are active learners who constantly look for opportunities to learn more.

They work either together and/or independently to produce great results. My students really enjoying working on educational activities and talking about books they have read and things they have learned. The school where I work provides a great community and learning environment. My students are currently in 5th grade, but most of them have known each other since kindergarten. This allows them to create what is more like a family. Everyone in the school is committed to success!

My Project

My students need 29 popular books in Spanish for the classroom library, to help build on their literacy skills, including books from the Dork Diaries and Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. The students will be using these books on a daily (and nightly!) basis. They will use the books for independent reading, homework, as well as other activities in the classroom, such as PALS (Peer Assisted Learning Strategies), which builds on comprehension, accuracy and fluency and more. Some of these books are already in the library, but very often students are interested in the same books and it is very good to have more than one copy available, so students can share their reading with one another.

This donation will help improve my classroom by continuing to provide opportunities for them to build on their literacy skills and do so by appealing to their varying interests.

My students will continue to grow and develop by reading these books.
