My Project
At BTECH, students are the drivers of learning. Students learn best when they have up-close examples that they can interact with. AP Biology, AP environmental Science and Earth and Space Science explore interactions that organisms have with each other and the environment. The delicate interactions between Earth and the living things that inhabit it are pivotal for students' understanding.
Axolotls offer a unique and very apparent illustration of the connection between organisms and the environment they inhabit.
Axolotls are aquatic salamanders that have visible gill structures that help to connect to deeper learning relating to cellular respiration and oxygen intake as well. Their delicacy, and in some cases sensitivity, make them an ideal metaphor for the balance of living things in nature. They are also very peaceful and beautiful animals to behold.
As a teacher, I hope to use this as a tool for real-world connection and environmental consciousness in my students. The world we live in is beautiful, yet fragile, and must be fought for, protected, and conserved both now and in the future.
