My students need a leveled library, to enjoy stories at their level.
This project expired on July 16, 2012.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
What fun is it going to the classroom library when there is such a limited selection of books? In addition to that, the books are not leveled. Our library currently consists of three baskets, as shown in the picture.
My students come from a poor neighborhood.
All are receiving free lunches. Most are second or third generation immigrants. Most parents are very supportive and would like to see their children succeed. Most parents struggle with working full time and raising their children.
A leveled reader would allow a student to read at his or her level. This is important because it allows the child to read a book, which may or may not be available. For example, if a child is above grade level, there may not be any challenging books for that child to read. Conversely, if a child is below grade level, the books will be scarce on that end as well. A leveled reader will allow a broad spectrum of reading abilities to find books to read. I would use the leveled readers during independent reading time and also for use in small group instruction.
A leveled library has the potential to open up a whole new world for my students.
It would give them an opportunity to experience the love of reading, no matter what their level is.
