Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
COVID affected many of my current 2nd graders when they were in Kindergarten. They were not able to share books from the classroom library due to sanitation issues. Fostering a love for learning and reading is very important to me as a 2nd-grade teacher. I would love for my classroom library to be filled with a variety of choices so all of my students can find books they are interested in.
Many of my students do not have books to read at home, so it is important for me to have engaging books of high interest for my 2nd graders in my classroom library.
Last school year, I purchased a set of the Dog-Man books for my students. They were all so excited to have graphic novels as part of our classroom library. I would love to provide more graphic novels for my students to read, as well as some popular series such as the Elephant and Piggie books. I have also requested some more Spanish books as I do not have many in my current classroom library.
My students are also learning how to get along with their peers and solve conflicts. I am requesting several social-emotional books that I can read aloud to my class to help teach them social skills since that is another area that COVID affected my students.
Finally, I would like to provide a couple of comfy chairs so students can read around the classroom without sitting on the hard floor.
