This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"I pledge allegiance to myself and who I want to be..." Each day, we begin our class with a promise that helps my students focus on what they want to do and to learn today to make their future dreams a reality. It's a reminder that we start each day with a positive attitude. We know that there will be challenges, but we also know that we can handle them. We can't control our circumstances, but we do control how we respond to them.
"I can't wait to make a mistake!" From day one, we foster a safe community of learners in our room.
If a student doesn't feel comfortable, they won't try anything new. We are all learners, and support each other in taking risks and making mistakes, because we know that is where the real learning happens. Ours is a Title I school, serving a largely immigrant, Latino population, in a densely-populated urban city. Statistically destined to drop out before they complete high school, my students aspire to go beyond the stereotypes, and be the first college graduates in their family. There are no shortcuts!
My Project
My students have been working from home for over a year. They've missed out on a lot of the projects that add a bit of color and creativity to their day.
Students have the creativity and color, they just need the materials to make magic!
I want all of my students to have equal access to quality art supplies at home to enable them to create boldly and draw their imagination.
We are about to embark on a college-based career research project and they will need these materials to see themselves in those future roles.
