My Students

Do you remember trying to learn math facts? It wasn't fun and for some of us, it was downright impossible. My motto is learning should be fun. My students are trying to learn these facts the old fashioned way, but they are bored. Using an app would make them feel like they were playing a game.

The majority of my students are living at or below poverty level.

Our school percentage is 97% poverty. They do not allow their situation to deter their desire to learn and grow. We are a small tech school. Each child has access to a laptop daily, however, most do not have access to technology outside of school. I have 52 wonderful kids that I teach Math to daily. They are inspired to do great things. They know that school is a safe place and bring real world experiences to all of our learning. They have taught me as much as I've taught them.

My Project

Even though we are a tech school and the kids have access to a laptop everyday, an iPod will broaden their learning. There are numerous math apps that will expand on concepts that they cannot grasp using paper and pencil. Our world is evolving and technology is taking over. Most of these kids do not have the opportunity to explore technology outside of school. Some of them have never touched an iPad or iPod. It is my job to prepare them for the future. The future is technology based. These kids have the know-how, they just need the resources.

If my students have the opportunity to have access to an iPod, they will show all of the great things they can do.

They love technology, but unfortunately their families do not have the resources to purchase technology for their homes. Technology causes great excitement for learning in the classroom. The students can use the apps to expand, create, and explore math. The possibilities are endless.
