My Students

The students who attend my school are some of the most amazing children I have ever met. They live in one of the most dangerous communities in our nation's capital and some have gone through more in their young lives than many of us will every have to endure in a lifetime. Every day they walk down a hill to school where they are able to escape the violence that riddles their neighborhood. Despite all of the challenges they face outside the school walls, they still come to school each day ready and excited to learn.

Our students thrive on the educational and enrichment opportunities being offered to them which helps them to build their background knowledge and expose them to things they otherwise wouldn't be exposed to.

Many of them would not have any opportunities to build their educational foundations if it wasn't for being enrolled in school.

My Project

These awards and certificates we are requesting will make a difference in students' learning because each of them wants to be recognized at the end of each quarter for the hard work they have done and be able to walk to the stage to be honored. Each quarter, we hold awards ceremonies to honor students that have made huge gains, are on or above grade level, and show outstanding citizenship skills. Students really push themselves to work extra hard each quarter to be able to get an award so they can invite their parents to see them go on the stage to accept their award.

These bright, colorful awards will be a small representation of the hard work students have done each quarter.

I'm sure most of us can remember awards ceremonies when we were in grade school and how proud you felt when you received your award. We want our students to be able to experience that same feeling and have an award that looks just as good.
