it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Books are the rocket fuel for ascending academic students! New books are the lifeblood of literacy for our community and our work with the youth. These books have been chosen by our students for the projects they are engaged in. We use book clubs as a way to help students navigate the complicated nature of literature, comprehension, and critique. Students read a book together and focus on issues of the author's craft, plot, theme, setting, connection to global events & self, and more. When students read together they can help one another with the trickier aspects of literature. It is incredibly motivating to be in a book club and also to have some agency over the books chosen to read. That is why we are requesting these books from you.
These books will be read in the classroom on day one on arrival!
Icebreaker, Queer Ducks, and All My Rage are awarding winning books from 2023. They are going to be huge hits with our students! It helps as the school year goes on to have new books to refresh your classroom library! Books are pretty expensive and life in the South Bronx during the pandemic has been particularly difficult. These books will go a long way to helping our students! Thank you for supporting our efforts to push the limits of literacy education further!
