My Project

When you think about your favorite books or genre of books, what do you think of?

My students are at the perfect age to truly hook them as readers and create positive, lifelong habits.

As a district, our middle schoolers have required summer reading. What I love about this requirement is that they are given a choice of 20 books to choose from! Yes, they have choice and yes there are 20 choices! These books and Teachers Pay Teachers Gift Code are carefully chosen by school librarians across the state and compiled into a Junior Book Award list.

One of the number one reasons children don't read for pleasure or reading doesn't become a lifelong habit is due to book access. Students need access to books, and lots of them. This means access at home, at school, in the library, all areas of life!

It is my goal, regardless of my content area, that my students make a book choice that they love and actually have a desire to read. This is why I love having a set of the nominees and will spend the last few months of school reading the first chapter of each of these books to my classes. The TPT gift card will allow me to purchase materials that can be used with any book and any chapter. Hopefully, this will impact students as they make decisions on what to read. After I read the first chapter, the books will be available for my students to check out and read.

Mrs. Logan will only receive her materials if this project is fully funded by August 9.
