My Students

Our elementary school is a coastal city nestled in the West Maui Mountains. It is a very tight knit community and I am so very lucky to be a part of it.

Our students are creative, thoughtful, and full of questions!

They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are our inspiration!

My Project

I believe that helping students become avid readers is one of my main roles as an educator.

Reading helps students become better writers, increases their vocabulary, makes students smarter, relieves stress, arms students against oppression, and will open up doors in my students' futures.

By providing my students access to three award-winning novels, they can see what good writing looks like in order to become great writers themselves. And, let's be honest: we all need a good story to get lost in every once in a while :)

Additionally, my project will provide a class set of wired mice so that my students do not need to use the mousepad on their MacBooks to do more intricate work on projects.

This project will also provide a globe that shows the constellations, as well as a model of the solar system to introduce engaging components that will support our science instruction this year.
