My Students

Remember the feeling of finding your favorite book, that spark, that joy, the excitement of an amazing story? I try to ignite that flame in my 8th grade middle school students every day. For many, the love of reading was lost and needs a fan to stoke the flames. We are categorized as a Title I school, meaning we have about 60% of our students on free and reduced-price lunch. The percentage has grown from 30% over the past 15 years I’ve taught here and shows no signs of shrinking.

We have an incredible and dedicated staff.

Teaching middle school is difficult, but we have a high teacher retention rate. We all believe that our role is to keep kids in school and learning. We believe in the power of our team working together toward a common mission and vision. Our mission is to create a positive and safe learning environment that allows students to succeed by giving them opportunities to be their best. We bring positive energy and devotion to help our students be successful and caring human beings each and every day.

My Project

These books will add depth of choice to our classroom library for independent reading. Our classroom library is pretty awesome and up to date, but there is a gaping hole. We are lacking in award winning books for teens. A collection of the top award winning books, from the Printz Award to ALA's best books for teens will help round out our shelves. These books are of high interest and are very well written. This is a winning combination for learning. Having this collection will light up a world of reading that will lead these burgeoning bibliophiles to the next level of literature.
