My Students

Students in my classroom come from all backgrounds. One common thread expressed by many parents and students as we begin a new school year is a lack on desire for reading.

Exposure to different type of award winning literature is my quest as a teacher!

After an initial assessment 13 of the 28 students are below grade level in reading. Students are coming from dual immersion schools where a greater focus on reading skills is now necessary.

It's time to introduce my students to award winning literature.

My Project

Studies indicate the the more students read the better readers they become. One very critical element is providing the students award winning novels. Novels they will fall in love with and have been read by thousands of readers.

The novels provided in this project will open up worlds, allow students to view the world in a unique way and develop opinions and interests new to their lives.

5th Grade is a pivotal year. If my students can develop a love of literature now with these award winning novels- their learning trajectory will increase exponentially.

A love of books can change a child's life forever! Let's get reading, we don't have any time to waste.
