Award Winning Authors for Amazing Young Readers!

My students need books by really good authors to support their love for reading! Clements, Spinelli, DiCamillo, Creech, and Korman are authors who write engaging stories that expand the vocabulary, thinking, and imagination of students.

My Students

Students at our school are avid readers. We teach a love for reading and emphasize the importance of reading all day long. Over 50% of our students qualify for the free and reduced lunch program.

The 25 students in my class have very diverse backgrounds.

This year approximately 5 students come from Spanish speaking households, and for many, English is a second language. There are 4 students in the Special Education Program, and 6 students in the Extended Learning Program (TAG).

Overall we have a wide range of backgrounds, interests, and abilities!

My Project

The students in my class have a strong passion for, and love of reading. They love to read in their free time and they love when we read a novel as a class. However, I often see the students get stuck in a specific genre or with a favorite author. While it is okay to read what you know you enjoy, it is also important to try something new every once in awhile.

It can be very beneficial for students to explore new books, genres, and authors.

These books can help strengthen the vocabularies of students and can also help improve their writing. By trying out new authors, students can broaden their views of the world, and can think about subjects from another point of view.

With these books our classroom will have a featured author every few weeks. We will do a class read aloud with one of the books by the author, and students will learn about the author's history. By featuring these award winning authors, students will be encouraged to take on new reading adventures.
