it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My kindergarten students are eager to be 21st century students learning with a curriculum that promotes and supports science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. My favorite quote is a Chinese proverb: "Do not confine our children to your own learning, for they were born in another time."
The students in my kindergarten classroom are mostly low income, English language learners, and children of military families.
They are curious about everything around them. But many of them lack educational support away from the classroom. Our school is located in a rural community in southwestern Arizona.
My Project
Our school is in its 2nd year of AVID. But my kindergarten students are in their first year as AVID learners. They are working on organization and structure in their learning environment. Having a sturdy 3 ring binder to secure and organize their reading and writing materials will meet AVID standards and create a meaningful organizational tool they can rely on.
Kindergarten students are learning about WICOR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, reading).
They are making graphic organizers, small books, taking notes, and more! We are in need of plain white copy paper and thick card stock for our many WICOR lessons and projects. Although we try to use as much technology as possible, paper is still a much needed resource in the classroom.
There are other items necessary to support our AVID learning needs such as dry erase markers and labels. The students use dry erase markers daily to practice skills on wipe-off templates in their binders. They go through markers often and it gets expensive for families to replace them.
Kindergarten students use labels for their interactive notebooks, nametags, and for labeling projects throughout the year. It helps us greatly to have these items readily available for all students.
