Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the privilege of working with student with disabilities in grades 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade. Many of my students have a Specific Learning Disability in the area of math, reading and/or writing. Others are diagnosed with ADHD, Autism or a different disability that makes doing well in a school setting a challenge. My students need to be taught in a different way in order to be successful.

Although sometimes my students seem to not be focused or unable to do something, they really want to learn.

They are eager to do well and want to feel like they are capable of reading, writing and doing math- and they are! Using different strategies, they are able to do so much!

My students are kind, even though not all of them come from a stable home environment, and it is apparent that their needs are not always met. Sometimes they are sleepy, sometimes they are sad and other times they don't know how to deal with their emotions. With patience, compassion and care I have come to see how much they are capable of, and they make me proud every single day.

My Project

AVID aligns a school campus with the most current research-based college and career readiness practices. These supplies will help my students organize their assignments throughout the school year. The binder supplies and pens will allow my students to learn organizational skills that will allow them to have a more successful academic year, and future. The pens will help students create meaningful AVID notes in all subject areas.

Many students who attend this school come from a low-socioeconomic status.

Being able to provide these supplies for my students will relieve a financial burden for parents, and will help all students feel like they have what they need in order to have a successful school year.
