This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 10th graders are a spirited bunch with lots of personalities. We have an aspiring stand-up comedian, a dedicated rapper, a leader of an all-girl punk band, and star athletes that play soccer, softball, and volleyball. They are all full of energy and inspired to observe the world and discuss and create, as evidenced by their love to the seminar about issues like race, gender, and ethics.

Our school is an equity project that brings in a diverse student population from most zip codes in San Diego and uses project-based learning to offer students real-world experiences inside and outside of the classroom.

These experiences are what make students engaged and present in the work they create.

My Project

This semester, students will analyze and learn about different ecosystems in San Diego and interview stakeholders of these ecosystems. We want students to reconnect with the land they live on and know how interconnected we are to it. We will also learn about the Kumeyaay and how they were connected to the ground before colonization. Using the microphone, students will make podcasts based on the information and interview content they collected. These podcasts will be submitted to the NPR Podcast Challenge, and this is why we need these microphones so that their podcasts are the best quality they can be!
