Mr. Larkin from Chicago IL is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a modern a/v center including document camera, large television monitor, ink for printed materials, extension cord and computer to run the system.

Many of my students view mathematics as an insurmountable obstacle. This year, they need to see the subject as a set of tools that they'll use to interact with the world. A state of the art A/V center will allow easy access to difficult class material and provide the pathway to success!
Imagine that you're an at-risk middle school student with skills far below grade level.
You want--more than anything--to improve, but you're against all odds. You come to school every day without basic materials, such as pencils, paper, and folders, and your classroom is ill-equipped as well. I have been lucky enough this year to have an amazing batch of students, but most of them are in this situation. They're some of the most awe-inspiring and courageous people I've ever met. As teens coming of age in the inner city, the vast majority come to school on any given day with a multitude of problems resting on their shoulders. Still, they have shown me how much they truly care about improving their futures through education.
A state of the art audio/visual center will provide an engaging entry point for students to interact with material. Rather than the traditional "chalk and talk" teaching method, these materials could enliven class discussion through true illustration of materials for the classroom. Imagine the possibilities a classroom can experience when modern day technology replaces the chalk board. Students will be immersed in their learning through engaging presentations complete with source material from across the Internet. Students will also be able to show off their work explain their problem solving processes through use of the document camera.
It is my goal to make my classroom an experience worthy of my students and their future.
As they prepare for their life in high school, college and their eventual career, they will need the skills provided by these materials. No corporate boardroom relies on chalkboards anymore. My students need to be prepared to enter that world by starting their training today!
