This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Autism students are in need of hands-on learning materials to help promote independence and communication skills. My students are happy, eager to learn, and adventurous students with autism and speech impairments or communication deficits. Online learning has made teaching students with autism quite challenging since the students can’t always communicate verbally. My students are able to answer yes or no questions, point to letters and sounds, comprehend simple storylines, and follow one-step directions. I'd like to engage my students by using more visuals and movement activities in our program to help facilitate social-emotional learning while complete academic task.
Children who are reluctant to speak may be more willing to talk during hands-on learning centers.
My students with autism are all engaged in academic learning through centers.
I use a variety of learning games to target academic skills while targeting social emotional learning. Students learn tk problem solve, develop vocabulary, understand sequencing skills, develop creativity, etc. all while having fun! Fun and learning go hand-in-hand and this activity will certainly promote active learning through hands-on manipulatives!
