This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Autism spectrum disorder affects millions of individuals worldwide, and many of them require specialized support, resources, and interventions to thrive. Donations play a crucial role in funding research, educational programs, therapy services, and community initiatives that directly benefit those with autism and their families.

The autism classroom is in need of donations to help students develop crucial fine motor skills, sensory processing abilities, and social skills through hands-on learning experiences.

Specialized materials and manipulatives are essential for enabling autistic students to engage with academic concepts in a concrete, multisensory way.

Beads, in particular, are a versatile tool that can be incorporated into math lessons on fractions, multiplication, division, area, perimeter, patterns, and sequencing. Having students physically manipulate groups of beads brings abstract mathematical ideas to life in a tangible way. In addition, beads can be utilized in collaborative art projects, providing valuable opportunities for autistic students to practice social skills like cooperation, turn-taking, and joint attention as they work together in small groups to create colorful, engaging pieces.

Lastly, the tactile input involved in handling beads is regulating and organizing for the sensory systems of many individuals on the autism spectrum. Donations of beads and other hands-on materials will enrich this autism classroom with the resources needed to support students' academic, sensory, social, and fine motor development in an accessible, multisensory learning environment.
