This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a special education teacher. I work with children who are on the Autism Spectrum Disorder. My group of kids are unique and special in many different ways. Before I begin talking about my kids, I would like to introduce my school. The school neighborhood isn't exactly kid-friendly but we as educators try our best to keep our students as safe as can be. Luckily, we have an amazing support staff. Without our administrators, we wouldn't be the team that we are! My students are part of the autism program at our school.

Each child is characterized by difficulties in behavior, social interaction, communication and sensory sensitivities.

These challenges that they experience lead to levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. All six students are unique and their needs are reflected differently. It is my job as their teacher to understand their individual needs and to be able to make appropriate accommodations for each student to help them become successful.

My Project

In our classroom we are in need of a fully stocked library center. During reading time, my classroom lacks children's books. It is unfortunate because my kids love to read and I can not provide enough books in our library to fulfill their interests. Through out the day I can use these books during every subject...whether they are being used during quiet time or whole group read aloud

Reading is important because it develops the mind.

Without the proper materials in my class it is hard to see my students succeed. Having a library center with fun and exciting picture books for my students would be amazing.

The game boards are used during earned free time. The games we currently have are old and have many missing pieces. Having a fresh set of games will help motivate my students to complete tasks. Also, during our time to play with games it helps the students interact with one another. Children learn amazing social skills and interaction skills while playing with one another.
