Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I support about 45 of the most amazing kids in the world in our center-based autism program. These students light up any classroom they go into and are so eager to learn. I once had a professor in college say to us, "If you find a job you're passionate about, you'll never work a day in your life." That quote holds especially true with the population of students I work with. They really make "work" a great experience each and every day. I truly believe that with the correct support and materials, we can provide a positive learning environment for our students. I am looking to provide my students with autism the tools they need and deserve to be successful members of society both in and out of the classroom.

It is our job to make sure we are providing every possible support to ensure academic success for all students, including providing the necessary tools to address the specific needs of our center-based autism program.

My Project

Our students on the Autism spectrum love our daily yoga and meditation as it helps them keep their bodies calm and their brains ready to learn. With help from donors like you, we were able to get a class set of yoga mats for our center-based classroom. We would love to have a pillow for each student as well. We have a few, but not enough for the whole class just yet.

These pillows will offer comfort during our daily meditation as well as a warm addition to our reading/calming corner.

These pillows will keep our students comfortable during two of the most important parts of the day - meditation and reading. I really want to provide a place of comfort and calmness for the students in my classroom.

During our meditation and calming time, the lights are dimmed and soft music is played. Students have the option of resting or doing a guided meditation/yoga, allowing them to rest their minds and bodies. A few students will fall asleep. Other students use this time to reflect or breathe deeply to the sound of soft music. A pillow will provide additional calming and comfort to their day.
