This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our special needs students in the Pre-Schoolers Achieving Learning Skills class are sensitive and inquisitive of others and their environment.

Our 3-6 year-olds have Autism, intellectual deficits, and/or developments delays.

They are learning to interact with others without the natural instincts to initiate relationships and new experiences. They need direction and prompting to navigate classrooms and large or small groups of children. Senses and emotions differ from student to student and require flexibility and patience to find what works best for each of them.

My Project

The Preschoolers Achieving Learning Skills students actively use their reading corner. While the amount of books is plentiful, the condition of the seating shows its age.

Over many years the students have read, played, socialized the life right out of the couch and chairs.

It is fabric covered which means that it cannot be cleaned well from all the hands, feet, shoes, and the germs that go with them. After dozens of students have loved our current set, there is very little padding left in the seat and arms. An upholstered set would serve this class setting for many years and many students to come.
