Imagine a life in which telling a story was nearly impossible? My students need visuals and manipulatives to aid in narrative development.
My students are a group of elementary school children diagnosed with autism.
They go to a special education school in which there are 6 children in each class. All of my students receive related services (Speech, OT, PT) multiple times a week. Each of my students is different and special. They deserve access to visuals and manipulatives to help them tell stories and participate in literacy class.
My Project
My students NEED visuals and manipulatives to aid in narrative development and story retell. To start, we need BOOKS! I am requesting an array of durable story books that will be of high interest to my students. Secondly, I am requesting storytelling kits to increase interest and improve my students' ability to retell stories(through the use of visuals!). They will learn story grammar elements and verbal narrative structure. Lastly, I am requesting storage bins- to allow my students quick and easy access to a book of their interest.
These materials are critical.
They will give my students a chance! They deserve a chance to participate in literacy class, retell stories, and even go home and share stories with their families.
