Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach 12 students in a self-contained class. This year I have the pleasure of teaching students that are on the spectrum. I am in awe daily as they discover new skills and give me a look into what they can do. I created this project on DonorsChoose to give my scholars that learn best through sensory play an opportunity to explore and learn hands-on.
For autistic children, engaging in sensory play can retrain the brain's response to sensory information. This helps them cope better when dealing with different sounds, textures, lights, scents and taste. Sensory activities facilitate exploration and naturally encourage children to use scientific processes while they play, create, investigate and explore.
