This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Flexible seating options are a vital component of an effective autism classroom, allowing students to remain engaged and focused during various activities and instructional formats. Specialized autism classroom stools, for instance, can provide the right balance of comfort, support, and sensory input to help students with autism regulate their bodies and stay attentive. These stools may feature gentle rocking motions, textured surfaces, or other design elements that cater to the unique needs of autistic learners.

During centers and group rotations, having access to flexible seating like these specialized stools enables students to find the optimal position for their individual learning styles, whether that's perching, swiveling, or gently bouncing Complementing the flexible seating, a thoughtfully-designed label maker system can clearly delineate different areas and expectations within the classroom space.

By labeling activity stations, quiet zones, and other designated spaces, students with autism gain crucial environmental cues to understand the purpose and norms of each area, reducing confusion and promoting on-task behavior. The combination of adaptable seating and structured, labeled spaces empowers autistic students to self-regulate, engage meaningfully with lessons and activities, and fully participate in the flow of the classroom community.
