This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are the most amazing bunch of K-2 learners. They love coming to school to play and learn. All of my students are identified as having autism and spend the majority of their school day in the special education classroom.
Many of my students have sensory needs and have difficulty with social skills.
Often their behaviors interfere with their learning. A smaller classroom setting allows them to receive direct and engaging instruction at their ability levels. The school where I teach is located in Los Angeles and all of my students receive free or reduced priced lunch.
My Project
Technology is a motivational tool that promotes learning and engages my students in academic tasks. Many of my students do not have access to technology at home so they love to learn through the use of iPads. In our classroom we have three very old computers that they use for learning social skills with the program TeachTown and other educational websites. There are so many educational apps that are available through iPads that will help my students reach their academic goals. In addition, there are some amazing apps specifically for children with autism that I would like to have available to my students.
Donations will allow my students to become familiar with electronic information.
They will effectively use an iPad, which will promote 21st century learning. Furthermore, the knowledge they gain from using digital technology will promote growth and lifelong learning.
