Autism - Building on the Language of Health, Hygiene & Nutrition
My students need age appropriate materials to learn and improve the language of health, nutrition, and hygiene like puzzles, books, sequencing cards, and manipulative sorting activities.
Imagine a group of students who do not have the basic vocabulary and/or understanding to express pain and feelings. Imagine a group of students whose sensory processing deficits have lead to binge eating, eating ONLY junk food, and/or refusing to keep up with daily hygiene?
My students are a group of elementary school children diagnosed with autism.
They go to a special education school in which there are 6 children in each class. All of my students receive related services (speech, OT, PT) multiple times a week. Each of my students is different and special. They make me smile every day.
My Project
I am requesting health and hygiene puzzles, books, sequencing cards, and manipulative sorting activities. These materials and activities are critical to exposing my students to the fundamentals of hygiene, health, and nutrition. My students NEED functional activities to help them build on language that will help them maintain a healthy daily routine at home and in school. My students will use the sequencing cards to understand and follow the directions of daily routines. They will use the puzzle and sorting activities to increase awareness and understanding of healthy vs. unhealthy choices. Furthermore, these activities will improve expressive language, allowing my students to comment, request, and sequence.
Donations will make a huge difference in the life of my students.
My students will learn and build upon the language of health, hygiene, and nutrition. This will allow them to feel more comfortable and confident with food choices, daily routines, and keeping a healthy body- both at home and in school!
