My students come from low socioeconomic homes. Many of their parents are forced to work-out-of state to provide for their families while the children are raised solely by one or two elderly grandparents.
While they are with me I focus on their strengths and interests.
I ensure I am creating a warm and loving environment by greeting them with a hug and complimenting them on their shoes, clothing and anything they feel proud of. I know they are faced with many hardships at home with much separation anxiety never knowing when they will see their parents next. But in my classroom is a loving warm environment where they can relax and rely on me to always be there, to believe in them, cheering them on, in their learning endeavors.
My Project
The students in my classroom enjoy using technology on a daily basis. As of right now our technology center consists of two computers which the students use on rotational basis during exploration time. Students enjoy writing and learning on the computer however they are not able to share their work with others since we do not have a printer or ink.
This project will allow students to print their writing and publish their stories to be shared with our school and neighborhood community.
It will build their self-confidence and self-worth, while encouraging and progressing their literacy skills.
Additionally, since most of the students in the class are English Language Learners, this project will allow for students to expand and learn new vocabulary with the aid of visual cues to be used throughout our learning.
