I am a teacher in a low income, dual-language school. My students are a diverse group of English language learners and fluent bilinguals. This group of boys and girls is learning resiliency at an early age due to many difficult family situations. A majority of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and we are lucky to have breakfast in the classroom each morning.
Our school strives to provide a warm, safe and challenging academic environment for each of its students.
Our Principal sets the example of a warm and caring approach toward each of our students. Teachers and students are held to high standards and need the right resources in order to meet them.
My students need a lot of support to improve their writing skills. With the composition notebooks I will be able to provide a journal in which they can write with less pressure and more freedom of expression.
A large variety of writing opportunities will give my students the confidence they need to improve their skills.
They will begin to see that writing is not anything to be afraid of and hopefully increase their writing stamina.
Writing and Reading are interrelated and my hope is that these children will grow academically in preparation for the next school year and their future college education.
