My Students

My students at West Elementary are typical fifth graders. They are social, active, and fun to be around. My students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds. I have students who are below grade level, on grade level, and above grade level. I am constantly reminding my students that we are not robots and that we all learn in a uniquely personal way. My students are mini inspirations to themselves and others around them, even if they don't know it yet.

My Project

Fifth grade wants to study the author, Jennifer Jacobson. An author study is an excellent way to investigate and celebrate the work of a writer.

We are hoping to compare and contrast two different titles from this author.

Author studies require a lot of reading, giving students plenty of opportunities to improve their reading fluency. Fifth graders will learn to compare and contrast themes, analyze text and illustrations, and make connections between an author's life and her work.

It is our hope that fifth grade students will learn to bond with authors as they read books from the same author.
