Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Greetings from a 4th grade classroom in northern California. Our school is in a low income area and services a predominantly second language learner population. The students are motivated to learn but often lack resources at home to adequately support their educational endeavors.
Through literature, we can teach many concepts, get them excited about books and lay the foundation for them to be lifelong readers. One of the authors that students have responded to in the past is Robert Munsch. His stories lend themselves to lessons on onomatopaeia, personification, similes and metaphors and are ideal for writing summaries. Robert Munsch books have a lot of repetition and humor and lend themselves to read alouds and class discussions.
Over the years, my personal collection of Robert Munsch titles has dwindled due to natural attrition. Please help me in replenishing my supply and help unlock the world of books for my class of English Language Learners.
