Help me give my students exposure to famous authors and writing opportunities in first grade!

My Students
I teach in a Title I school where more than half of the students come from low income families. Many students have blended families and parents who work long hours, sometimes making it hard to provide the educational support at home.
"I can do it!" That is the excitement I get to hear when my students learn something new or have achieved a new goal they've worked so hard for!
Each student finds his or her own comfort zone when they are allowed to explore and find out what works for them, while working in an inviting environment!
I currently teach an amazing group of first grade students with various academic abilities.
My Project
Throughout the school year I would love to introduce my students to amazing authors and their entertaining stories, paired with opportunities to become fabulous authors themselves!
Mo Willems, Robert Munsch, Jan Brett, and Tedd Arnold all offer various levels of entertainment for a variety of students.
My students will benefit from author studies that focus on the writing styles of each of these authors. The various "Writing Your Own" resources will help me guide my students to become better authors throughout the year, allowing them to learn and choose different genres to explore and express themselves through. We will follow up each author study with various writing activities.
To help strengthen reading comprehension and writing, we will also utilize the Vocabulary Games and Activities resource.
