Help me give my students the capability of counting and exchanging money through a classroom store reward system. I am currently using erasers for students to purchase reward coupons with but it clicked, "why not use money!"

My Project

Hello! My project inspired me when my students were counting erasers every week for classroom store when all of a sudden it hit me! It is already called our STORE but my students are struggling with counting, adding and subtracting money. I have decided I would LOVE to use COINS! Students will earn pennies instead of erasers and on our store day they will exchange them for nickels, dimes, and quarters until they reach $1 then they may buy anything of their choosing from our class store! This usually consists of coupons for show and tell, bring a stuffed animal, wear a hat, sit by a friend at lunch, take your shoes off, and many other options! Using coins will consistently teach my students currency and help them build an AUTHENTIC relationship with money. This is not only a skill they must comprehend but it is a LIFE lesson for ALL my students! Let's give these kids the opportunity they deserve to help them build financial skills, counting skills, bank exchanging skills, and money management throughout the entire year! This will be a life changing change in my classroom and I can't wait to see the student growth and knowledge of using currency (fake coins) in the classroom!
