Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As part of our curriculum students are studying memoirs and autobiographies. They loved a class set of A Place at the Table donated by this community. The books complement our study of immigration and heritage as they examine the author's culture and background.
Our goal is for students to read more than one title from chosen authors.
Students use what they gather from their study of these authors to write their own short memoirs.
Throughout the final quarter of the year, students engage in collaborative discussions through a variety of techniques. There are multiple opportunities to analyze and examine the author’s purposeful use of language and apply it to responsive writing, quick writes, and extended writing.
