This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are creative, energetic, and excited to learn, even online! They prosper in a dual-language school setting but lack the resources and necessary materials in Spanish to learn and grow from home.
The pandemic has caused many of my students to lose authentic instruction and materials in Spanish.
Many of my students come from low-income households and cannot purchase their own books and supplies to engage in distance learning. Despite the challenges my students are facing, heightened by the coronavirus, they are eager to start the school year off strong!
My Project
Teaching in a dual-language school, many of my students do not have the resources in both languages at home to successfully learn online. I want to buy these books so that I can provide my students with authentic books in Spanish to improve their vocabulary, comprehension, and reading skills.
These books will fill my classroom library with authentic texts that the students can access to support language learning.
While we are still undergoing remote learning, I will be able to share these wonderful stories with my students through voice recordings and live session readings to support our first narrative unit. Once we are back in school, the students will be able to read these books in the comfort of our classroom library on a daily basis.
