Authentic Decodable Books to Develop the Skills of Competent Readers

Help me give my students a way to use familiar phonics skills to read words instead of relying on patterns, pictures, and memorized sight words to guess what the book is saying.

My Project

If we want students to learn to love reading, they need to feel like successful readers. In order for students to feel successful when they read, we need to offer our students books that help them feel that success. This includes decodable books and accessible high-interest books that students can read and enjoy.

Students are able to "decode" the text, using familiar phonics skills to read words instead of relying on patterns, pictures, and memorized sight words to guess what the book is saying.

It's amazing to watch students carefully "tap out" sounds to words, successfully read a page, and wear the biggest smile as they experience what it is like to read a book.

Now that we have shifted our reading instruction to more evidence-based practices, I would love to be able to offer my students texts that match this method of instruction.
