August is HOT- We Need Indoor Fun!

Help me give my students 30 Nylon Beanbags, 4 Dino Skin foam balls, 2 mini cornhole desktop sets, a Tetra Tower, Head Hoop basketball, and 6 sets of watercolor crayons for when we cannot go outside on hot August days.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Teaching in Palm Springs in the summer months is quite challenging. There are many days in August, September, and June when the temperature reaches over 120 degrees and the Heat Index is so high we are not allowed to let students play outside. As we all know, when students are not allowed to play at recess, all sorts of challenging behaviors start to bubble up.

With this fun grant, I will be able to give my students indoor activities where they can still play and exercise in the extreme heat, but also keep cool with activities safe for inside our classroom!

Beanbags and foam balls safe for throwing along with desktop cornhole, tetris balance games, and headband basketball will let my students have fun and feel like they are still having recess while moving and playing together inside the room and keeping out of the heat. Painting with watercolor crayons will be a favorite, as they only need to add water and their art will dry almost immediately when put outside to dry in the desert heat.
