My Students

My students love to read! We read not just in reading class, but also in science, social studies, and math! Reading is everywhere and will always be a fundamental part of their education.

My third grade students are a very diverse group, both ethnically and socioeconomically.

They are eager to learn and enjoy the fact that our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) curriculum allows them to connect what they are learning across all subjects.

My Project

Many of my children are learning English as their second language and go home without parental support in English. The audio books will accompany portable CD players that I already have and can go home with the children weekly. They will thrive by having the opportunity to listen and follow along in a story that is on their reading level and also with hearing the words pronounced correctly. They will then have the opportunity to take a computerized comprehension test to prove understanding of the story.

The audio books will make a huge impact on the lives of my students.

Most importantly, they will improve their reading skills and their love for reading. They will be able to listen to a story independently at home and have reading success!
