My fourth graders attend a close-knit rural community school in Kentucky. They are highly motivated, extremely creative and great problem solvers. They have developed a deep love of reading and researching. They love our Blue Ribbon school and work hard every day!
As their reading teacher, I love introducing them to quality picture books, chapter books, magazines and more to help instill a love of learning.
These students are strong readers and have shown a tremendous amount of growth in reading this year. They deserve great books!
4th grade is a tough year for students who think they are not strong readers. My job is to turn them on to books and change their perspective. I want these readers to have access and availability to 4th grade level literature in a way that would meet these struggling readers' needs.
I believe audiobooks will be an avenue I can use to connect with struggling readers.
A parent asked me once if I offered audiobooks for her child to read and sadly I had zero in my classroom library of 2300 books - zero audiobooks. Therefore, this is a great need of mine and my students. These books will give them access to enjoy titles that their peers are reading to build confidence, vocabulary and fluency skills.
