This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a special education teacher and I teach students that are 3-5 year olds. My students have developmental difficulties such as speech and vision problems, limited motor skills, sensory processing difficulties and/or special learning challenges. These kiddos come from low-income communities and face challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Despite their challenges, my students come to class happy and eager to learn.

They love to be a part of the class and make new friends. I love teaching special education and give them new experiences as well as new exposures that help enhance their learning. Being their teacher is my greatest joy they brighten my days with their contagious smiles.

My Project

Using audiobooks in our listening center will help my students build an understanding of narrative structure. It will foster imagination and encourage visualization. These skills are linked to improving reading comprehension. With audiobooks, my students will develop listening skills and quiet concentration.

Having audiobooks open up literary texts for my visually impaired students and are great for dyslexics.

My students with attention deficit disorders may find that listening is more distraction-free than actual reading. Lastly, audiobooks will teach my students how to hold people’s attention when telling a story which in the long run is an important skill for life.
